And so it begins…

Figured I’d pop in early on Day 1 and well, drop a few words.  Since I’ve already shared the “before” pics, might as well share the stats that go along with them:

Age: 47 (soon to be 48)

Height: 5′ – 6.5″ (I’m shrinking, lol.  I once stood a whole 5′ – 7.75″)

Chest: 40″

Waist: 38″

Hips: 48″

And according to the digital scale I bought over the weekend:

Body fat percentage: 36.7%

Whew.  Yeah, so simple science tells me I’m not going to drop the total amount of fat I want by the end of my initial 30 days, and I think I’m finally getting that situated in my head – that when it comes to life, instant gratification isn’t really gratifying, as it is a temporary fix to a long-term desire. It really is about loving the journey and not being so tied up in the destination.

I’m attempting to focus on the day – how I feel, what am I able to ‘produce’ with my efforts TODAY – that type of thing. And while I may measure and weigh myself regularly, it’s more so just to track my trends.  I won’t be using those numbers as a form of judgement. There will be some celebrating though should certain numbers trend in a downward pattern ;-), but no recriminations if they don’t.

Speaking of tracking, here’s a short list of what I’m using to log my numbers and such.  I’m not very consistent when it comes to tracking my food intake, but what I’ve logged so far has been helpful.  These are NOT product endorsements, just sharing what I’m using…

  • Fitbit Flex ($$).  I won mine in a contest at work and I must admit, I’m digging the tech. It’s fun to log in and see what my stats are. Of course, there’s an app; it has its issues, but I’m able to track my walks while I’m on them.  I use it to monitor my sleep as well.
  • My Fitness Pal (free). “Free Calorie Counter, Diet & Exercise Journal”.  Another easy to use tracker type deal.  I use it mostly to log what I eat. I’m finding that while my calories are reasonable, I’m actually not eating enough of the right things so I’m looking forward to adjusting my intake as the months go on.

I’ve also signed up on Nerd Fitness. While it seems to be geared toward 20 – 30 year olds, I find the posts, tips, and suggestions worth the read.  There’s a lot of humor and relatable life stuff which helps keep me from feeling awkward about being so ‘slow’ to getting myself in shape.

Anyway, just wanted to share my Day 1 with you. Thanks for reading…now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to get some exercise in.

    1. Sweet! What did you change – more exercise, better food choices; a combination of both? I’m hoping by my next ‘weigh in’ I’ll have dropped a pound, lol. We’ll see. Thanks for commenting and keep me posted on your progress :-).

      1. Nothing fancy. Just more exercise (went from only 1 or 2 days a week to 4 or 5 days a week) & better food choices. Good luck! 🙂
